Last night, I was walking around the block, on the phone with the American Airlines Platinum desk to change a reservation I had for a trip in November. Long story short, the flight I was originally scheduled on was moved up 3 hours earlier, and I couldn’t make it. So, I had to re-adjust to find a flight later in the day.
I tend to walk when I’m on the phone. For me, it helps me think, gets me some fresh air, and, provides an excuse for some exercise. As I was turning the corner, a few hundred yards away from my house, and now still on the phone with an AA agent, I hear a loud screeching noise and turn around to see a vehicle flip over and turn onto its roof, on top of a cross-walk signal. Now seeing what had happened, I quickly explained to the AA agent that I had to go, and I needed to call 911. Not really caring whether she said anything back, I quickly hung up and called 9-1-1.
After assisting with the accident, and later chatting with some friends who had been the responders on the call, I proceeded to then call back AA. Thinking I would have to explain the schedule change again, read-off the flight numbers and remain on-hold for another few minutes, I was very surprised to hear that the previous agent had not only ticketed the reservation while I was helping with the accident, but had also waived the change fee for future issues on the ticket.
All I can say is…wow. It’s great knowing there are good people left in the world, and know that there are people that try to help you out and think ahead, especially when you yourself are trying to help someone in their time of need.
American Airlines has truly exceeded expectations this time, and I know why I love flying AA. Well done, guys.
