A statement from American Airlines:

American Airlines fares are no longer available through consumer websites powered by Orbitz, including orbitz.com and cheaptickets.com. We also anticipate removing US Airways fares from Orbitz on September 1, 2014. You can continue to compare and purchase American Airlines and US Airways flights or fares through other online and brick and mortar travel agencies. Corporate clients that use Orbitz for Business to book travel are not affected by this change.

Tickets already purchased through Orbitz websites remain valid for travel, but changes to reservations must be made through each airline’s reservations department. If changes to travel are needed, please contact the reservations center for the carrier operating the flight. For tickets purchased from American Airlines for travel, please contact 800-433-7300. For tickets purchased from US Airways for travel, please contact 800-428-4322.

To book future travel on American Airlines or US Airways and to easily search for the lowest available fares with no online booking fees, visit us on aa.com or usairways.com. Only on these sites will you find convenient booking, online check-in, flight status notifications, the ability to earn AAdvantage® miles or Dividend Miles® on flights, hotels, cars and more – providing an all-in-one experience from booking to takeoff.

Q&A

Is American pulling its content from Orbitz?
Yes. Our goal is to keep fares low for customers while remaining competitive with low-cost carriers. We were unable to reach a deal with Orbitz with economics that allow us to do that. We will immediately cease distributing American Airlines fares via Orbitz consumer websites. American Airlines Group has notified Orbitz it will also withdraw US Airways fares on Sept. 1, 2014. There are thousands of other options available for customers to shop and compare our fares, including through online travel agencies, brick and mortar travel agencies and through our own websites, aa.com and usairways.com.

Isn’t this change inconvenient for customers?
American is making sure there is minimal disruption for customers. Our corporate clients that use Orbitz for Business to access American and US Airways fares are not affected. There are thousands of other options available for customers to shop and compare our fares, including through online travel agencies, brick and mortar travel agencies and through our own websites, aa.com and usairways.com. Tickets already purchased from American and US Airways via Orbitz remain valid for travel, but changes to existing reservations must be made through each airline’s reservations department.

Will American be pulling fares from Orbitz for Business?
It is our intent to continue to make our fares available to our corporate clients via Orbitz for Business.

Once American ends its agreement with Orbitz, is the airline ticket I purchased from American Airlines or US Airways through Orbitz still valid?
Yes. All airline tickets already purchased from American Airlines or US Airways via Orbitz consumer websites remain valid for travel and all original fare rules are still in effect. However, changes to existing reservations must be made through each airline’s reservations department. For tickets purchased from American Airlines, please contact 1-800-433-7300 and for tickets purchased from US Airways, please contact 1-800-428-4322. American and US Airways will waive our customary fees for modifying travel agency bookings for affected customers who need to make changes to their travel plans. Any change fees specified in the fare rule will still apply. In contrast, we expect that our corporate clients that use Orbitz for Business may continue to do so as normal.

Where can I shop, compare and buy airline tickets online for travel on American Airlines and US Airways?
There are thousands of other options available for customers to shop and compare our fares, including through online travel agencies, brick and mortar travel agencies and through our own websites, aa.com and usairways.com.

Where can I get the best deal for travel on American Airlines and US Airways?
American Airlines and US Airways flights are offered at the lowest available fares on each airline’s website at aa.com and usairways.com and you will pay no online booking fees.

Are there additional incentives for booking travel directly with American or US Airways?
American Airlines and US Airways flights are offered at the lowest available fares on each airline’s website at aa.com and usairways.com and you will pay no online booking fees. Only on these sites will you find convenient booking, online check-in, flight status notifications, the ability to earn AAdvantage® miles or Dividend Miles® on flights, hotels, cars and more – providing an all-in-one experience from booking to takeoff.
