I attended the Family Travel for Real Life event in Washington DC this past August, and really enjoyed it. While it was only a one day event, there was a lot of great camaraderie, and the topics were interesting for families and singles alike.
The next Family Travel for Real Life (FT4RL) event is scheduled for this March 7 in Charlotte, NC. I’ll be assisting at the Frequent Traveler University in Sag Diego, so won’t be able to make this event this time, but have a ticket for anyone interested.
“Family Travel For Real Life” 2 is live! FT4RL will be held March 7 at the Hyatt House Center City in Charlotte, NC. Registration will begin at 9AM and sessions will run from 9:30-5:00 with a lunch and afternoon snack break included in admission.
FT4RL is the first seminar for frequent travelers (and those who wish to be) specifically tailored to the needs of families. Created by Dia Adams, who writes the family travel blog The Deal Mommy, FT4RL brings together experts in various aspects of family travel to teach and, more importantly, to learn from each other. The event fills a giant hole in travel advice for families, which tends to swing from “Sleeping at your in-laws house is a great vacation” to “Fly your baby in First Class or stay home”. The speakers at FT4RL are all parents who, while having different modes and methods, share one belief:
Travel with kids is not only possible, but necessary. By sharing the world with our children, we expand both their minds and our own, creating a lifetime’s worth of wonder that can come no other way.
Confirmed Speakers:
Phil from Miles Abound on Current Events and Sweet Spots in Miles and Points
Kenny from Miles4More on National Parks and Destination Ideas Off the Beaten Path for Families (and how to get to them with awards)
Bonnie from Frugal Travel Lawyer on the New Frontier (Airlines): Southwest, Jetblue, and the rest of the game changers
Shawn from Miles to Memories on Immersive travel: family adventures, educational experiences, and ways to give back
Leslie from Trips with Tykes on Disney: Mastering the International Houses of Mickey
Do you want a ticket to the event? I have one.
Email me at JLarounis [at] theforwardcabin.com and I’ll send you the details. It’s a free transfer, so hope you take advantage!

I’m kind of in the same boat as you, James. It’s too bad both events are on the same exact weekend. I wish I could go to both events, but San Diego is driving distance from home.

Really love the way you express the thoughts like”Travel with kids is not only possible, but necessary. By sharing the world with our children, we expand both their minds and our own, creating a lifetime’s worth of wonder that can come no other way”. Such a heart touching words that kids are so important in our life. We enjoy the precious moments of life with the kids. I went India for homestay in coorg with my kids. Those was the amazing moments that I have enjoyed.
