A US Airways Express plane operated by Republic Airlines had an engine fire just after take-off from Philadelphia International Airport yesterday.
The plane, Republic Airways 5927, was headed to Manchester airport, just outside of Boston. 53 passengers and 3 crew were onboard the ERJ-175 aircraft, which later landed safely and with no injuries.
One of the passengers on the plane reported, “I was terrified. I mean, it’s not normal and it didn’t seem like it should be happening and he had just taken off. But the crew was calm and they helped us through it.” Several folks on the ground reported hearing an explosion, and then seeing flames. After yesterday’s Virgin Atlantic landing gear fault, this week’s Air Asia disappearance, and other recent air disasters, this comes at a bad time for the aviation industry.
