American Airlines Offering Targeted Status Challenges

January 15, 2015 by James Larounis 2 Comments

Get award booking help and personalized travel assistance for as little as $1 a month!

I’ve written on this similarly before, but it looks like AA is offering challenges to select customers in order to assist them in reaching elite status quicker. This does appear to be a targeted offer, and if you’ve held status, or have status now, this offer won’t apply to you.

Interestingly, unlike previous challenges, this one offers the option of qualifying on either miles OR points, which is fantastic. Points accumulate based on the fare purchased, where miles accumulate based on distance flown. Also, the amount of points required is more for Executive Platinum.

With this offer, you can achieve the following American Airlines status levels:

  • Executive Platinum with 30,000 miles or points
  • Platinum with 12,000 miles or points
  • Gold with 6,000 miles or points

If you are qualifying on points, here’s the breakdown of how you’ll earn:

  • Earn 1.5 points per mile when the purchased fare on your American Airlines ticket is booked in one of these booking codes: A F P D I J B Y
  • Earn 1.0 point per mile for these AA booking codes: H K L M V W
  • Earn .5 points per mile for these AA booking codes: G N Q S O

You need to register prior to traveling, by using promotion code HV1T1. Travel must be completed by May 15, 2015 in order to achieve the appropriate status level.

SELECT transforms any existing credit or debit card into a black card that unlocks VIP perks, pricing, and experiences at thousands of premier destinations around the world.

I didn’t get the email offer but tried entering the code and here is what it said:
The AAdvantage number entered is not eligible for this promotion. Check out Airline Offers for other promotions.
