Kimpton has a really nice property a short walk away from the Alexandria Metro and Amtrak station, and it’s my go-to property for early flights out of Reagan Airport the next morning, since I can conveniently hop on the first Metro train from there. It’s the Lorien Hotel and Spa.
For this review, I wanted to focus specifically on the Presidential Suite of the Lorien, which I was given a complimentary upgrade to as a Kimpton Inner Circle members.
Heading up the elevator and to my room, I noticed that the room had a double-door entry, which is always a good sign when it comes to big rooms. 🙂
Entering the room, I was greeted by a huge open floor plan. There was a seating area, dining area, television, and plenty of room to walk, or gather with friends. I really love open floor plans such as this since you don’t feel boxed in. To the left was a mini bar and closet – if you’re a Kimpton Karma member, you get $10 to “raid the mini bar” which is one of the things I love about Kimpton hotels.
On the dining room table was a welcome amenity of sparking wine and a house-made banana bread, which I’ve had before and is absolutely delicious.
To the right was a spacious bathroom, again with an open floor plan theme.
As you walk across the living room, at the other end and to the left is the bedroom, complete with a King bed and armchairs.
Just outside of the bedroom was a door leading to an enormous balcony (actually, deck) overlooking King St. in Old Town Alexandria. It was nighttime when I arrived, so I didn’t get the best of photos, but the area was perfect for entertaining or relaxing. In fact this space is more fun with friends than if you’re just alone.
This room is absolutely gorgeous, and enormous, and while my stay was short, can be an awesome playground for someone staying longer than I did.
