There’s a bit of rumor circulating that American Express will be introducing a new competing card to the Chase Sapphire Reserve, perhaps called Tier One, a recently registered trademark that Amex filed. No one knows if this will be a new card, a replacement of the Platinum card, or something totally irrelevant.
Whatever the case, Amex knows they’ve got stiff compeition.
So, take a look at this little interesting tidbit found on Twitter today, thanks to MommyPoints.
American Express (on Twitter) is claiming that effective October 6, “eligible card members” will receive 5x the Membership Rewards points on airfare directly booked with the airline (similar to the 3x points that’s offered on the Premier Rewards Gold card now).
- What “eligible card members” will be included in this. Is this targeted?
- Will this be included for all card holders of a specific card (perhaps Platinum?)?
- Will these changes be permanent or is this some sort of trial?
Social media teams from credit card companies, hotels and airlines have been known to be wrong in some cases, so not sure if this is just bad information or whether there’s something relevant here.
In any event, this will be interesting to see. Let’s see if Amex replies back to my Tweet.
