American Airlines announced several weeks ago the introduction of their Basic Economy product.
Long story short, here’s what they will and will not include:
- No seat assignments, and you can purchase seats 48 hours prior to departure.
- No upgrades.
- Only under-seat personal items allowed; no overhead bin stowage.
- Last group boarding.
- 1/2 elite qualifying miles and segments for AAdvantage elites.
American published a memo today highlighting the routes which they’ll be kicking off Basic Economy.
It says the fares go on sale today, but I’ve searched each of the routes, and have not found any that pull up a Basic fare on AA.com, so they may be loaded later today.

Hat Tip to several flight attendant friends I have…
