Starting November 8, American is offering a new meal entree selection during lunch and dinner flights.
American will offer a fruit and cheese tray, along with dessert, a bread roll and salad for pre-order only. Pre-orders are accepted up until 24 hours prior to departure. Unfortunately, the flight will not be catered with more cheese plates than pre-ordered, so if you don’t select this option online, you won’t be able to choose if inflight. It’s worth noting – if your upgrade clears within 24 hours or you’re upgraded at the gate, the fruit and cheese tray will not be available to you onboard.
The change comes as American encourages more pre-ordering of meals in advance of flights, and suggestions from flyers that don’t like the two standard entrees currently offered – usually one with meat, and one vegetarian.
What do you think of the new fruit and cheese tray entree available for pre-order?
Nelson says
On very early or late flights this is a great addition. I don’t want a 1000 calorie loaded biscuit gravy in the morning on my way to make an intl’ connection – but I’d love some fruit and cheese to nibble on!

I think AA should allow us to pre-order breakfast as well.
Rail Provocateur says
Frankly, the real issue here is not for the few vegans or vegetarians, but rather, what happened to AA’s domestic F Class entree selection during lunch and dinner?
On an upcoming trip ORD-LAX before Thanksgiving and LAX-ORD after Thanksgiving, the menu is practically the same–some kind of salad with a piece of roadkill chicken or farm-raised salmon. Whatever happened to burgers or enchiladas at lunch; chicken or steak at dinner? This approach to the market is a joke; no wonder they are fighting the ME3!
As for me, I will not be bound to loyalty since AAdvantage came out in 1981; but rather, look for the carrier with the best inflight service, e.g., Alaska.
