A Guide To The Best Nature Spots In Texas

Get award booking help and personalized travel assistance for as little as $1 a month!

Texas is one of the top states that does tourism in a big way, earning over $160 billion in revenues from local and international visitors each year. Apart from experiencing authentic Texan barbecue and its live music culture, people from all over the world come to the state to see places such as the Alamo, The Space Center Houston, and The Sixth Floor Museum. While The Lone Star State may be famous for its iconic landmarks and delicious food, it’s also one of the best places to go to if you want to reconnect with nature. Whether you love being up in the mountains or you prefer being near the water, there’s something for everyone who wants to enjoy seeing picturesque, diverse nature scenes. If you’re planning to travel to The Lone Star State, here’s a guide to the best of Texas’ natural wonders.

Balcones Canyonlands National Wildlife Refuge, Austin

Austin is home to nature lovers in Texas, and families who have an active lifestyle are known to take advantage of the land for sale in Texas Hill Country to live closer to hiking and walking trails such as those found in the Balcones Canyonlands National Wildlife Refuge. Apart from its scenic trails, the preserve also has a natural pool, and the oval watering hole is surrounded by limestone structures. A waterfall plunges into the pool, and since no chemicals are used in it, you can expect to swim alongside catfish while you’re in the water. Hunting is also allowed in the wildlife refuge, and you can hunt white-tailed deer, feral hog or turkey, depending on the season.

Caddo Lake State Park, Karnack

If you’re visiting East Texas for a nature getaway, look no further than Cado Lake State Park in Karnack. Here, you’ll find Cypress trees covered with Spanish moss surrounding the bayous and sloughs, and you can fish, paddle, or go boating in the area. Apart from that, there are beautiful hiking trails all around the state park, as well as cabins, trailer areas, and tent areas if you want to spend the night. It’s the perfect place to get some peace and quiet, so head on over if you’re looking to escape the hustle and bustle of the city.

Natural Bridge Caverns, San Antonio

The Natural Bridge Caverns in San Antonio is the largest of its kind in Texas, and the family-owned and operated natural structure attracts millions of visitors each year. The underground caves are located 180 feet below the earth, and here, you can see ancient formations formed by drops of water over a long period of time. After exploring, head to the Mining Company, where you and your friends can mine and pan for fossils and gems, or go through the 5,000 square foot outdoor maze. Meanwhile, for aerial adventure enthusiasts, there’s the Twisted Trails Zip Rails and Ropes Course where you can make your way across an aerial obstacle course while suspended high above the ground, then ride the zip rails to get a fantastic view of the San Antonio treetops.

Texas is the perfect place for a nature getaway. Explore these scenic destinations to get closer to nature and have a healing and rejuvenating travel experience with your family and friends.
