Air Travel in China: What to Expect

As China is such a vast country, those wanting to see all of what the country has to offer need to travel by plane. While flying is the most convenient way to get around the country, be prepared that it’s also the most expensive too. If you are a tourist with a limited time frame, it’s best to pay that little bit extra so you can spend more time exploring. Here is what to expect when traveling by air in China.

Plan for Crowds

To reduce the risk of missing your flight, it’s always advised to arrive early. Getting to the airport with plenty of time to spare will mean that you make your flight without any problems. It’s best to avoid traveling on national holidays too. Unlike many parts of the world, one of the main differences you will find in China is that they tend to never form lines, which can make your airport experience more stressful. Therefore, to navigate your way around with ease, allow plenty of extra time.

Limitations and Restrictions

Before you get to the airport, you need to do your research onwhat you can and cannot carry with you. Examining the flight restrictions online will help you understand what type of items are strictly prohibited. Liquids, lighters and some technicaldevices are forbidden on flights in China. To ensure you comply with the rules and regulations, make sure to contact your airline first to avoid any problems.

Purchase a VPN

When traveling around China, you will find that internet access to many popular Western websites is limited. If you need to get in touch with your friends and family, be sure to install a VPN on your devices. That way, you can access the internet without any issues which means you can contact your loved ones to let them know you have made your flight. Having communication with your friends and family is important, especially when away from home, so be sure to purchase a VPN well in advance.

Understand Cultural Differences

As a visitor to China, you should be prepared that there will be cultural differences. From the food they provide on the flight to the personal space you get once on board, there will be things that you are not used to. It’s important to have respect for your fellow passengers. Kindness and appreciation can go a long way and help you navigate around the country much easier.

Health Insurance

Having health insurance in place can give you more security and reassurance should you have an accident on your travels. Getting the correct health insurance plan means that you do not get left with large treatment bills which can have a huge impact on your finances. Be sure to check out China Expat Health who can give you more information on the different options for health insurance in China.

Useful Tips

There are various useful tips that you can use to your advantage when traveling around China. To save money, you should travel in the off-season. Avoiding domestic travel peak times such as Chinese New Year and Golden Week will mean that you can explore what the country has to offer without forking out a ton of money. Also, delays are unfortunately common, so try and remain upbeat and positive to get you through the experience.

To get around China with ease, it’s important to take all the tips listed on board before you fly. Make sure to plan for crowds and delays, as well as booking early in advance to save you money. Also, be aware of cultural differences. As you will be engaging with locals when on your travels, having respect for your fellow passengers can go a long way and ensure your adventure goes as smooth as possible.
