Best Lightweight Folding Mobility Scooter

Get award booking help and personalized travel assistance for as little as $1 a month!

I started reading reviews on mobility assisting electric scooters after I started having problems with my current one, an old ENSONIQ that I bought at a garage sale. I needed a new one and I wanted one that I could count on.

Being a large man, 6 foot 2 inches tall and nearly 290 pounds, I needed something capable of carrying that kind of load for as long as possible. The first thing that attracted my attention toward the Drive Medical Scout Power Scooter was its weight limit of three hundred pounds. That is when I started combing through its reviews.

You see I am able to get around my small house easily enough, and the grocery stores that I frequent use have courtesy scooters so I don’t need it for that either. What I need a scooter for are trips to the mall and for family outings. It is also important that I be able to easily place it in the back of my trailblazer SUV to take it where I intend to use it.

Every summer I go to the Six-Flags amusement park near my house pretty much every weekend with my wife and children. When we aren’t there we head out to the zoo or some other place where they can run around and expend their energy. I need to be able to keep up with them. I have no intention of letting my disability keep me from being part of their childhoods.

I continued reading and the reviews of the Scout scooter made it sound ideal. In fact, it seemed too good to be true so while I had my reservations I didn’t see anything comparable for the price. I decided to give it a try.

Now I couldn’t be happier!

When it arrived my eldest son and I took a couple of hours to put it together. The assembly was not hard. It should have taken less time but we socialized while we worked and that slowed us down a bit.

Then I let the batteries charge overnight in order to test the scooter the next day.

It was easy to break it down into its five component parts for transport. Even with my back and arm problems I was able to load it into my truck without help. I would say it took less than five minutes to go from being completely assembled to being ready to roll. Very nice.

My wife and I took it to a local mall where I put it back together in the parking lot. The five parts fit together easily and quickly. I was surprised by the amount of power and speed it had when I drove to the mall entrance. The scooter had no trouble traversing from the parking lot to the mall. It was narrow enough that I had no trouble driving through the entryway doors.

We spent a lot of time shopping. Many of the mall stores had very narrow paths between displays. For the most part, I was pleased with how maneuverable the scooter was. While it is true I was not able to navigate between the clothes racks I was able to get everywhere else that I needed to be. In the places where I could not fit the scooter, the swivel seat made it easy to get up in order to see what my wife wanted to show me.

I was impressed with the lifespan of the battery charge. After hours of shopping, we went to the food court for lunch. While we ate I let the scooter recharge. By the time we were finished it was ready to go again.

As she usually does my wife wanted to walk the mall for exercise after eating. This time I was able to keep up with her every step of the way. She did not have to stop and wait for me nor did she have to set herself at a snail’s pace so that I could remain by her side. It has been ages since I have been able to do that.

When it was time to go home the scooter easily broke down into its five parts again. I was able to single handily move the component parts back into my truck. Thanks to the Scout scooter it was a very pleasant day for both my wife and me.

Now that we know how long the battery will last we are planning on going window-shopping downtown next weekend. For the first time in forever, I am looking forward to it!

Thank you for a wonderful product I am mobile once again! The Drive Medical Scout Power Scooter really is the best lightweight folding mobility scooter!
