What is the best medical alert system with fall detection?

Get award booking help and personalized travel assistance for as little as $1 a month!

Written by Paramedic/Firefighter Jason Williams, who responds to over 2,000 fall emergencies each year.

Medical Alert is a personal alarm system that informs emergency services when a person has a medical crisis. This emergency medical system has been around since the 1970s and it is primarily used by elderly people. Let’s take a closer look at Medical Alert to better understand how this product can help to save lives.

One of the biggest problems that elderly people must deal with is the danger of falling. Thousands of elderly people fall every day due to some type of medical condition. Many older people typically injure themselves when they fall. A lot of these individuals are all alone. So, having a personalized emergency medical alarm will help them in the event they take a fall and no one else is around.

When a consumer purchases a Medical Alert system they will need to set it up. The system can be set up in about 15 minutes. A person simply must unpack the equipment and hook it up according to instructions. The Medical Alert system has three basic components. These components include the console, transformer and a transmitter. The transmitter is the most important part of the system.

Users will have to connect the console to an available phone jack. Once the console has been plugged into the phone jack, a person will have to plug their phone into the console. They will have to power the console by plugging the transformer into the unit and then an outlet.

Keep in mind that there are 3 different types of transmitter units. One type is a wristwatch and the other kind is a pendant that a person can wear around their neck. Some Medial Alert transmitters are designed like bracelets. When a person encounters a fall or they are suffering from some type of medical condition, they will simply press the button on their transmitter. This will immediately send off a signal to Medical Alert personnel. They in turn will contact emergency services.

Medical Alert technology is not just for home use. People can also have a mobile system set up that they can carry around. The mobile systems can be set up with wireless technology. The wireless technology comes in the form of a mobile phone, a wristwatch or a pendant. Each of these mobile alert devices has a button that can be used to contact Medical Alert emergency monitors.

Don’t forget that the mobile medical alert devices are designed with GPS technology. They will actually transmit the location of a person in the event that they pass out or are immobilized due to a fall or medical injury. Medical Alert even has a feature called Fall Detection that uses motion sensors to inform Medical Alert monitors if a client falls. This technology is beneficial to any older person that frequently encounters falls and slips.

Another great benefit of Medical Alert is the Caregiver App. The Caregiver App allows a Medical Alert customer to keep in touch with people that care about them. In the event that a customer becomes injured or falls, the Caregiver App will inform their caregiver about their condition. This is another added layer of protection for Medical Alert users. Medical Alert plans are also set up with the systems and a customer can purchase the type that is best suited for their situation.
