Scout Moped Review

Get award booking help and personalized travel assistance for as little as $1 a month!

This Scout moped review was written by Dr. Gene Krantz, a orthopedic surgeon from Arizona.

I am writing about the Scout Moped that I purchased for my son with Muscular Dystrophy. I wanted to find an alternative for transporting my son around, because the motorized wheelchair at home, does not disassemble, unlike the Scout. The Scout Moped has provided a real solution to our family outings, because I don’t have to push him in the standard wheelchair anymore.

This is a superior form of mobility transport, because it doesn’t have the same feel of a wheelchair, but is more like a pleasure cruiser instead. The leather padded seat is comfortable for long sitting periods, and padded arm rests, provide maximum comfort.

The Scout Moped has an easy range handling system, good for limited mobility patients like my son. The battery life time of up to nine miles at capacity, provides ample time for outside errand running, and daily house use. I was pleased that the tires did not scuff up our floor surfaces, and maintain good traction on both linoleum and wood floors.

This was a minimum investment, that was worthwhile, because it is compact for our automobile trunk space, and easy to disassemble and reassemble for in-town outings. The Scout Moped handles well on outdoor terrain, managing normal pavement, asphalt, turf, and small gravel with ease. It doesn’t take up a lot of room either, so it manages normal doorways, entrances and hallways without any difficulty. The assembly unit is not too difficult to put together, but be sure to unlock the wheels first, before trying it out.

The thing my son really loves about the Scout Moped, is the basket feature; he can put his pencil bag and notebook for school, or his lunch bag for the cafeteria. Having the Scout Moped has made life easier for me and my child, because I don’t have to worry that he is having difficulty moving around in the class room, since he can’t push himself in a normal wheel chair. Having the Scout Moped has greatly increased his confidence around his peers as well, because he doesn’t feel like he isn’t immobile anymore, and having to rely on an assistant to push him around in the hallways and classroom.

The price of the scooter is only a tiny fraction of the cost of a large motorized wheelchair, so even without medical insurance to cover it, it didn’t break my wallet. My son can ride it around the house for a few days without it needing charged, and it doesn’t take all night to charge up either, but maybe an hour or less, which is great, since I often forget to charge it, before he wakes up. I can plug it in while he is watching cartoons, and then a little while later, the scooter is good to go.

The Scout Moped has been an invaluable asset to our family, and I anticipate that it will last a long time, with it’s good quality craftsmanship. I am very pleased with my purchase with theScout Moped, which I purchased on Amazon for the best price and warranty.
