Surfing In Bali – Top Areas To Begin Surfing

If you’re a traveler who’s just starting to learn how to surf, then visiting Bali should be among your to-do list. This is because Bali is known to be every surfer’s paradise. It has become famous for being one of the best surfing destinations since the 1930’s. So, if you’re looking to go wave riding for your beginner’s surfing lessons, check out the following list of the top areas in Bali.

Padang Padang Right

This sandy beach is best for novice and intermediate surfers. It is situated in the far south of Bali, where the city’s surfing mecca which is Bukit Peninsula can also be found. Padang Padang Right never fails to leave a lasting impression among the majority of novice surfers. It offers a unique soft reef break that allows surfers to practice going left and right. However, this part of Padang Padang is also ideal for practicing different levels of surfing abilities. If you’re a total beginner wanting to learn about surfing in Bali, you may begin with off riding those broken white waves of Padang Padang Right. Once you level up to being a novice-intermediate surfer, you may opt to go riding those unbroken green waves.

Nusa Lembongan

From the coast of Samur, you only need to go for a boat ride for 25 minutes to be able to reach Nusa Lembongan. The surf spots in this area can be found on the North Side, facing Bali and such location is the reason why enormous waves wouldn’t be able to reach this area. Thus, waves are always large enough for beginners to be able to practice their surfing skills. The reef breaks in this area are known to be tide-sensitive. The best thing about Nusa Lembongan is that it offers different scenes during big or small wave days. Always ask for expert guidance from local surfing instructors.

Kuta Beach

Dubbed as the center for Balinese surf culture, Kuta beach is also famous for being the safest beach for those who are still learning how to surf. Besides, you will never have difficulty looking for  a place to buy your surfing gears because you can find  a lot in Kuta Beach. However, if you’re a traveler looking for a quiet and relaxing place for retreat, Kuta Beach will not be your ideal destination as thousands of  novice surfers flock to this area every year. What makes it different from other surfing areas in Bali is its sandy bottom.

Medewi

Medewi is one idyllic beach where you will find a lot of locals. Surfing in this area of Bali has gained much popularity not just by local surfers but by the international surfing community as well. Its rocky shoreline and long stretch of black sand makes it nothing short of being picturesque. Every novice surfer will certainly be amazed to find 30-second long waves. However, if you plan to go to Medewi, start your commute early in the morning or you will find yourself spending almost three hours being stuck in traffic.

Bali has what every surfer’s definition of great surfing experience. Breathtaking waves, affordable accomodation and warm sunny weather. This city is home to the best surf spots that surfers can visit no matter what time of the year.
