British Airways AARP Discount Is NOT Going Away!

October 7, 2015 by James Larounis 1 Comment

Get award booking help and personalized travel assistance for as little as $1 a month!

There’s been a fair amount of speculation recently that the British Airways AARP discount was going away, since the website was showing the discount as being unavailable.

As it stands now, you can receive several worthwhile discounts on British Airways for your AARP membership:

  • $65* off for travel in World Traveller (economy)
  • $130* off for travel in World Traveller Plus (premium economy)
  • $400* off for travel in Club World (business class)
  • $400* off for travel in First

* Served by American Airlines, British Airways (including Open Skies), Finnair & Iberia

For those that don’t think they can be a member of AARP without being 55+, think again. I’m 25 and am a “proud” member. There’s been several flight sales to Europe pricing in at around $2,000 round-trip, so by using this British Airways discount through AARP, you can bring that cost down to roughly $1600 on-average. If you’re really lucky, you can price things even lower, closer to $1000.

Right now, if you visit the website, you’re presented with an error message.

I reached out to AARP for clarification on this to confirm whether the discount had been removed and received this message back:

Dear Mr. Larounis,

Thank you for your e-mail concerning the issue you are having with the British Airways website. I am happy to assist you with this today.

After visiting the website myself, I am able to see the error you are referring to. I have sent out an escalated request for the error to be fixed. I would like to apologize for any inconvenience this has caused you. Please try again in one to two business days. The discount should be up and running properly. I will also keep an eye on the website. If you continue to experience any issues after that time, please do not hesitate to respond back to this email or call us toll free at 1-888-OUR-AARP (1-888-687-2277).

Thank you for your membership and for bringing this to our attention. I hope you have a great day.

Sincerely,

So, there you have it folks. Try back in a few business days and the discount should be properly working again. Keep in mind the current discount expires October 31, though if previous history dictates correctly, we’ll probably see this promotion renewed, though absolutely no guarantee.
