A Really Great Idea in a Hotel Minibar

Many hotels are getting rid of minibars since they’re costly to have on hand, and travelers aren’t really using them due to the price of the products inside.

Still, at many premium hotels you’ll find a minibar stocked with your favorite goodies, at break-the-bank prices. To ease the accounting for what has been taken (and to prevent theft), you’ll find many of these high-end fridges to be equipped with electronic sensors that automatically add the taken product to your bill and alert housekeeping staff that the item needs to be replenished the next day.

Unfortunately, because these bars are so stocked, it doesn’t leave any spare room for personal items, and it doesn’t allow you to take any of the items already inside out in favor of placing your own bottle of water, for example, inside.

Here’s where the Park Hyatt in DC (and some other similar hotels) have a great idea – to build in a space inside the fridge to accommodate your personal goodies, so you don’t need to disturb the pre-stocked beverages and snacks.

This is a really great idea, and something I wish hotels would utilize. I haven’t seen it in too many properties, but it’s a nifty idea that should be implemented across the board, especially when the mini bar is already equipped with electronic sensors to track what’s been taken out.
