I recently stayed at the Park Hyatt Milan, and reviewed my experience here. Seeing as this is a popular Category 7 hotel, and is an aspirational redemption for many Hyatt Gold Passport users, I wanted to do a quick summary highlighting 10 things I think you should know about the hotel.
1. The hotel is located directly adjacent to the Duomo and opera house, and a short 2 minute walk to the Duomo metro station. If all you judge a hotel by is location, then this hotel can’t be beat.
2. If you are a Hyatt Diamond, breakfast is complimentary, through it appears that they’ll initially suggest to you the cold buffet. There is a full hot menu, and you can ask for it and receive any combination of items on there as well.
3. Hyatt Diamonds will also receive a complimentary afternoon tea session in the Lobby Bar. It’s valid from 4p-6p, daily.
4. Hyatt Diamonds using an upgrade certificate are upgraded into a Junior Suite, though some have had luck requesting an Executive Suite, if they’re available. All Junior Suites have interior courtyard views, and do not look out upon the streets.
5. If you’re looking for tickets to see the Last Supper, one of the most popular attractions in Milan, the concierge has access to various local travel agencies and consolidators with spare tickets. Be warned, that they can’t contact these folks on weekends or holidays, so you’ll need to investigate during the week.
6. Water is complimentary in the room, and is replenished daily. Ice is provided during the evening, and you can’t store the water in the in-room mini bar, since it is electronically monitored and there’s no spare room to store extra items.
7. Transport time to the airport via public transit is about an hour, give or take a few minutes depending on train schedule. Take the train from Malpensa to Cadorna, and then transfer there on a metro to the Duomo. Do not take the train to Centrale, as this requires extra connections and time.
8. If you want to see the opera, tickets are cheaper the day-off at the opera box office itself, and NOT at the hotel. It’s a 5 minute walk from the hotel, so bypass the concierge to buy these tickets.
9. A public transit pass for Milan is not needed if you plan on doing the major sites within the city center. The city is very walkable, and buying such a pass may be a waste of money for you, especially considering the hotel’s prime location.
10. The hotel is able to notify you by email if your room is ready, if you try to check-in early and it isn’t already. For traveler’s without phone access, ask them to email you, and you can check your email via WiFi hotspots throughout the city as you spend time sightseeing.

This is actually a super helpful post– a note on the Last Supper tickets- the Park Hyatt concierge can get you tickets for cheap. Just make sure to email them a few weeks (or even months if you’ve got the time) beforehand. It’s absolutely worth a visit, and way more awe-inspiring than the Mona Lisa.
Totally agree with you on taking the train to Cardona, definitely the way to go.
And no, it’s not adjacent to the Opera House. Say it’s adjacent to the Duomo is a slight stretch but the Opera House is past the Galleria (that glass shopping walkway with all the luxury boutiques).
