Delta Offering New Food Option for Business Class Customers in SkyClubs

According to Pathfinder813 on FlyerTalk, Delta has added a new meal option for DeltaOne (formerly BusinessElite) customers who visit a SkyClub lounge.

Delta is now providing Delta One passengers a card in the Delta Sky Club (JFK) for a light meal and beverage. They gave me a card to place on a table and a server noticed it and took my order. Today’s selection: Chilled Shrimp with Saffron Aioli, Bulgur Salad with Beets and Walnuts, Lemon Roasted Fennel with a dessert offering of assorted macaroons (2). There is a vegetarian option of Roasted Vegetable Crostini that can replace the shrimp. A suggested wine pairing of Sauvignon Blanc, Merry Edwards 2012 California is also listed on the card. I ordered the shrimp which comes with the salad, fennel, and macaroons. It was plated in four distinct sections, tapas style. I also went with the suggested wine pairing which was pretty nice and crisp for a nice spring day out on the Sky Deck.

He also notes:

Just found out that they started this new meal service this week. Talked to a SkyClub waiter who said he noticed me walk out to the Sky Deck with the card and they made a note to come find me after I was situated. All in all, a fantastic job by the wait staff in the SC. Wanted to give a shout out for their amazing service.

This is an interesting new development, that sets the SkyClubs apart from United Clubs and American AAdmiral’s Clubs who do not offer a more extensive food offering to Business Class passengers (though, both United and American operate First Class lounges in select airports).

Some note that this new move may be for Delta to better align themselves with Virgin Atlantic’s Clubhouse which offers a la carte full food options. I’ve always wondered why passengers were served premium drinks and meals onboard, but never before in domestic US lounges, so this is a nice offering Delta appears to be extending to its premium passengers, but which only be available in JFK.
