Westin Detroit Metropolitan Airport: Review

I had to stay close to the airport for an early flight out back home, so decided to try out the Westin Detroit, which is directly connected to the McNamara Terminal at Detroit airport.

  • If coming by rental car shuttle, take the shuttle to McNamara and get off, go up to ticketing and follow signs to the hotel.
  • If landing in the North terminal, catch the shuttle departing every 10 minutes to the McNamara Terminal and Westin. Note that the Westin is its own stop.
  • If landing in the McNamara terminal, walk outside to Delta ticketing and bear right. You’ll see the Westin at the end of the ticket counters.

As far as airport hotel goes, this one is pretty nice. It’s quite convenient to the airport flights itself, even more-so if you’re leaving on Delta. If you’re leaving out of the North terminal, I would a lot at least a half hour to get there since the shuttle only picks up once every 10 minutes and the ride to the terminal could be slow going based on traffic. Either way, I think it’s more convenient than an off-site hotel.

When you arrive at the Westin, you’ll walk down a long hallway to a set of escalators which will lead you into the atrium. You’ll find the check-in desks down below. The lobby is enormous, which a large amount of guest rooms facing inwards.

I had booked a King room, and was fortunately upgraded to one with a view, which in this case is a fantastic view of all of the Delta jets lined up alongside the terminal. Pretty cool.

As far as the room goes, it was nicely appointed with a long couch near the window, and an armchair in the corner. It was just slightly larger than a standard room in my opinion, and was well-furnished, though lacked available electrical outlets near the bed.

The rom featured two complimentary bottles of water, which is always a nice touch. Closet space was ample with two luggage racks.

The bathroom was standard, and featured a full selection of toiletries.

The hotel also features a restaurant downstairs, which I didn’t try, as well as a good amount of meeting space, making this a great place for conferences, actually.

I had a flight the next morning out of the North terminal For a 7:05a boarding time, I left the hotel at 6:10am and made it past security of the North terminal at around 6:35, which was excellent.

My Take

I’d certainly stay here again, mainly because of the location, and this being a Westin, which is an upgraded hotel as far as airport properties go. I especially appreciate it being onsite, and attached to the terminal which can’t be beat.
