10 Pictures of American Airlines 757 Business Class, Miami to Lima

American Airlines operates 2 flights a day from their Miami hub to Lima, Peru – one on a 767, the other on a 757. It’s important to know the difference between the two – the 767 leaves earlier, and has lie flat seats, while the 757 leaves later but has the older “New Generation Business Class” seats that are angled-flat.

Boarding began at Gate 20, starting with passengers needing extra assistance down the jet bridge, and then Business Class. Business Class had 6 seats open on the seat map just prior to boarding, but by the time things were complete, the cabin was filled up entirely.

On each seat was a pillow and blanket, wrapped in plastic.

The cabin is laid out in a 2×2 configuration, so this means those on the windows will not have aisle access. Interestingly, each seat had a pair of the cheap, disposable headphones on the console, but at no point during the flight were Bose Noise Canceling headphones distributed, which was odd, since these are standard issue for an international flight such as this.

The seats feature controls on the end of the console, and are easy to reach. These seats lie angled-flat, which means you’ll be sliding into the foot rest, when extended. For a day time flight, I personally really like these seats, as they provide a nice cradling position.

The tray table is built in the console, which is a downside since you have to lift any drinks to extend it out.

Each seat does have a personal inflight entertainment screen, albeit small. There’s also a tray table extension, which slides out to connect with the main tray table in the console.

Prior to take-off, bottled waters were distributed, which I promptly stowed in my bag to take to the hotel later.

After that, an offering or orange juice, water or sparkling wine was offer. I choice the bubbly.

A full dinner is offered on this route. I chose the chipotle bean pot pie, which is really good as I’ve had it on several other flights before.

Everything was served on one tray, which was interesting. The salad was dry and unappetizing, since it had no dressing on it (a consistent issue in the catering department). The chipotle bean pot pie was rather good, and I’d highly recommend it on your next flight if it’s offered. The portion size is decent, too.

After dinner, dessert was offered and I choice the ice cream sundae with hot fudge, berries and nuts.

Still being a but hungry since I didn’t eat all day, I also asked for one of the cheese plates, too.

After dinner, I got a good 3-4 hours worth of movies and a short nap in before a pre-landing meal was offered. Since the Miami to Lima route is between 5-6 hours long, it’s interesting they serve 2 meals for such a short flight – you’d never find this on a transcontinental JFK to LAX flight, for example. I chose a steak sandwich.

My Take

Overall, a nice flight. Good food, and good service, though oddly enough the flight attendants kept speaking Spanish to me, despite me clearly identifying myself as an American who didn’t speak the language. Not sure if they forgot or not, but literally during every interaction, they spoke fast in Spanish, so I had to assume what they were offering or asking. 🙂
