Free Upgrade on American Airlines For Everyone!

February 24, 2017 by James Larounis 4 Comments

Get award booking help and personalized travel assistance for as little as $1 a month!

American runs two programs for loyalty – the AAdvantage program, which is the traditional frequent flyer in the sense that if you fly, you earn miles for your ticket, and the Business Extra program, which is a company based loyalty program, where any employee that flies earns points that the company can use. It’s worth noting that Business Extra members can also earn miles in AAdvantage.

Anyone can be a member of Business Extra, and you can be a member as a single person. Every flyer on American Airlines should have both a Business Extra and AAdvantage account.

To celebrate the Business Extra programs 20th anniversary, they’re giving away 650 points to anyone who registers and takes a flight by March 30th. 650 points is good for a one-class domestic upgrade!

This year is the Business Extra® program’s 20th anniversary, and we want you to help celebrate with 650 bonus points. Just register using code BX20UPG and take one flight within 30 days of registering, that’s it. Register by March 30 and that next flight could earn you points for a one-segment upgrade within and between North America and Hawaii or the Caribbean. It’s just our way of saying thank you to our members for 20 years of truly rewarding travel.

You need to register for the program, but you can do so here. If you aren’t a member of Business Extra, you can join and then register, so this shouldn’t be targeted and should be open to everyone.

The upgrades are issued as paper certificates, which may take 2-3 weeks to arrive at your mailbox once requested. To use the certificate, there must be “C” availability on your domestic flight to go from Main Cabin to First Class (on a two-class aircraft).  Not every flight will have upgrade availability at the time of booking, but if your flight does, you can use the certificate. There’s no harm in registering for this promotion – it’s a free 650 points.

SELECT transforms any existing credit or debit card into a black card that unlocks VIP perks, pricing, and experiences at thousands of premier destinations around the world.

What should we declare ourselves to be on the form? Travel Agents or Travel Managers?
