Tumi Backpack Review: Tumi Alpha 2

The Tumi Alpha 2 Backpack is a business class backpack like no other. If you must travel with your laptop, this backpack just made it easier. It is designed to meet the requirements of almost any TSA checkpoint, which means that you can go through security without having to remove your laptop. I personally own this Tumi backpack, and it’s a great addition to my luggage collection.

In looking around, the best price on the Tumi Alpha 2 or similar backpacks can be found on Amazon.

Features and Specifications

Its exterior dimensions are 16.5 inches (41.9 cm) (h) X 12.5 inches (31.8 cm) (w) X 8 inches (20.3 cm) (D) and weighs 1 lb 9 oz. The exterior laptop case is 15.75 inches X 10 inches X 1 .75 inches, which means it will fit most laptops on the market, except for very large ones.

This backpack is exceptionally tough and durable, as it is made of ballistic nylon. Ballistic nylon instruction makes it almost indestructible. This means that it will easily protect your most valuable pieces of technology on the inside as well.

Pros

This backpack has many features that make it a favorite among business and professional travelers. It allows you to keep your most precious technology with you at all times. In addition, the following features and many more reasons why this is a favored piece of luggage among business travelers.

  • • front U-zip pockets
  • flat zip pockets
  • side pockets
  • 13 inch shoulder drop, which is comfortable for most and places the load right in the center of your back
  • Tumi ID lock zip pocket
  • phone pockets, card pockets, pen loops, and the key leash
  • umbrella or water bottle pocket
  • Add-a-Bag sleeve

This backpack looks small when you first see it, but you will soon realize that it has more space on the inside than you expect. This is due to an efficient design that allows enough pockets and dedicated spaces for everything that you need. The material is durable and easy to clean with just a damp rag. The best part about this backpack is that you can take all of your business needs, and the clothing that you need for your trip in one piece of luggage. You can access your technology without having to open the inner compartment where your personal items are stored.

The backpack is designed to fit an average sized person in a way that is ergonomic and balances the load. Customers report that although the bag is not waterproof, it does have some water resistant qualities. This is due to the tight weave of the heavy duty ballistic fabric. This is also a plus when you are carrying valuable technology inside.

The bag sits up in a stable position, which means that only the bottom of the bag touches the dirty carpet in the plane. Some users pulled it out from under the seat and used it to prop their legs on for more comfort.

Cons

One of the downsides to this bag is that it has no support on the bottom of the laptop case. It was suggested that you put some type of foam or padding at the bottom so that when you set the case down your laptop corners are not damaged. This is not a major problem, it is just something to be aware of. On some airlines, the bag will not fit under the seat with the side pockets filled. This is one drawback that must be considered, but it is not a problem with every airline. Personally, I’ve rarely, had an issue — and the one time I did, it was because I filled my bag to the brim, and I was on a CRJ-200, which, as many of you know, can’t fit even the smallest of bags. I’ve never had an issue with laptop damage either – just take care like with anything else and you’ll be fine.

Final Word

One of the best parts about this backpack is that it has a five year warranty, with the first year worry free. This means that Tumi is willing to stand behind this product and knows that it will last a long time. This bag combines functionality and performance through innovative engineering. It has a place for everything and keeps everything in its place. Its stylish leather trim and interior lining will add a touch of class that says quality in every detail. This will be the only bag that you need for most short trips.

Customers love this backpack and for many good reasons. This backpack is compact, yet feels roomy. The zippered pockets are great for carrying chargers, cables, and extra peripherals for your laptop. This is one of the best business class backpacks on the market, but then again one would expect nothing less from a company with a reputation like Tumi.
