Rimowa Topas Luggage Review

Sleek and tidy, the Rimowa Topas carry on suitcase is one of the best little pieces of luggage you will ever own. The classic Topas was introduced in the 1950s and the original design has had over 50 years of continual improvement to make it one of the best on the market today. Rimowa has 50 years of experience listening to customers and their needs, and today’s Topas collection gives the traveler everything they need for a short trip, or as an additional piece of luggage for longer trips. The Rimowa Topas luggage is perfect for any frequent traveler.

In recent years, airlines have been cracking down on carry-on luggage sizes. Even though a carry-on bag can fit in the overhead bins of most aircraft, many of them still won’t fit in the sizers used by many airlines. The problem is that the hardware and wheels on many bags are the parts that extend outside of the limits. Even if the listed sizes on the luggage are within the limits, there is a possibility that you can get there and the wheels and handle will not fit. If you are changing flights to several different carriers on your trip, this could be problematic if you have to make certain that your luggage fits within the sizers of every single carrier that you will transfer to along the way. It can create a stressful experience not knowing if you have to check your bags or not on your next connecting flight. Over stuffing your bags can make this problematic, because you can make a bag that would normally be within the limits, outside of it. There is no possibility of doing this with this hardshell case luggage. You know that once you have the Rimowa Topas luggage packed and the latches close, then it will fit and not change sizes due to bulging sides.

Features and Specifications

The Rimowa Topas is a piece of luggage that will last a lifetime. It is made from aluminum-magnesium alloy that protects it from high humidity and temperature fluctuations. It has lever action locks that can be opened easily for security checks without any damage to the locking mechanism. It is 21.7 inches (55.1 cm) (H) X 15.7 inches (39.8 cm) (W) X 7.9 inches (20.7 cm) (D). It weighs 10.1 ounces and opens book style for easy packing and unpacking.

Pros

This piece of luggage has many great features that you will love:

  • silenced multi-wheel system making it easy to maneuver
  • two Integrated TSA locks• flex divider system keeps your clothing in place
  • multistage telescoping handle extends to a number of different heights• wheels rotate 360° to make it easy to maneuver either standing upright or when leaning
  • hardshell case makes it great for transporting items that you do not want to be damaged
  • holds 32L
  • features classic Rimowa grooves on the outside that make it recognizable anywhere

Cons

This model does not have a lot of compartments for easy organization and functions more like a regular suitcase. It has lots of room inside, but you will have to devise ways to keep your smaller items in place and from sliding around. For me, this has turned out to be a fine thing because I can pack things the way I want without have pre-determined compartments. There is no over stuffing it because it has a hardshell case, so you can’t cheat on your packing and belongings. You have to pack everything as small as possible, but you can rest assured that once everything is inside, there will be no issues fitting it into an overhead bin. When I first bought this case, I thought I would have trouble with this, but it is in fact the best feature – because you can’t overstuff your bag, you know it will always fit.

Sale

For those that follow Rimowa products, you’ll know they never go on sale. Like ever. Rimowa – like Apple – doesn’t discount their products. However, Amazon is offering 5% off this Rimowa case, which is seriously unheard of. I highly suggest you purchasing through Amazon to save 5%.

Final Word

This luggage was designed for tropical travel. It is lightweight and durable. It has a main compartment with mesh packing dividers that allow you many different packing options and the ability to achieve maximum compression without worrying about wrinkling and shifting. This piece of luggage is perfect for the business class traveler. It is maneuverable and easy to roll. It has two front wheels and two front feet so that it can easily roll when you want it to, but also has the ability to stay still when you want it to.

It has a number of different trolley systems available, which means that you can find a system for every need. The Rimowa Topas is perfect when you want to carry items that you want to make certain are not damaged. This hardshell case is tough enough to do the job. This carry-on luggage makes a statement at the airport and says that you know how to make a good investment that will last a lifetime. This is a piece of luggage that you will pass on your children and the next generation.

To save 5% off the purchase price of this Rimowa luggage AND get free shipping, buy it on Amazon.

Most carrier’s carry on limit is 22x14x9 isn’t it? So this model will technically not qualify?

Mine fits without an issue, even in CRJ-900’s.

I get that it fits. Most continental carry on will also fit.

I’m curious why Rimowa intentionally sells products that are technically over the size limit.
