Great Destinations To Fly To When Leaving Hong Kong

If you’re planning on country-hopping in Southeast Asia, Hong Kong is a great place to start. Its geographic location neighbors countries that are rich in historical and cultural tourist spots.

Solo backpackers and groups of tourists all over the world usually include Southeast Asian countries, such as Indonesia, Malaysia, Vietnam, Malaysia, and the Philippines, in their itineraries when touring Asia. According to the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), there are over a million tourists who flock to these countries to see the attractions they have to offer. Thus, flying to these destinations are surely worth the experience.

If you’re unfamiliar with this area of the globe, this article can help you check what cities are worth visiting from Hong Kong. 1. Taipei, Taiwan

As the capital city of Taiwan, Taipei is a busy area that’s flocked by thousands of tourists every year. Hong Kong is actually the nearest country neighbor of Taiwan with a distance of 717 kilometers. You can easily access and purchase tickets — just like Cathay Pacific’s flights from Hongkong to Taipei.

This bustling city offers a lot of activities, whether you want to do a double-decker city tour or you need a nature adventure. You can visit one of the tallest buildings in the world, Taipei 101, and enjoy the panoramic view it has to offer. Go northeast and visit the Yehliu Geopark, which is known for unusual yet breathtaking rock formations, like the Queen’s Head. Your trip will not be complete without releasing lanterns into the sky in Shifen, a train track in Taipei.

Every money and time spent in this city will definitely be worth it.

2. Bali, Indonesia

If you love the ocean and outdoors, Bali is the perfect getaway destination for you. Only one flight away from Hong Kong, Bali’s pristine beaches and local food will surely take your breath away. There are a lot of water activities that you can do with friends and family, such as surfing, scuba diving, cliff diving, and canyoning. Most resorts are located in world-renowned beaches like Kuta, Padangbai, Sanur, Jimbaran, and Legian.

Aside from basking in the sun and dipping in the ocean, you can also tour the area and watch traditional shows wherein Balinese ceremonies and dances are performed. Bali also has parks that you can roam around, like the Bali Zoo and Bali Bird Park.

Don’t forget to try authentic local food before leaving the country. You surely won’t regret trying their infamous babiguling.

3. Cebu, Philippines

Known for their majestic falls and sceneries, Cebu is a famous tourist destination for backpackers, groups of friends, and families. In this city, you don’t need to spend much money because food, transportation, and accommodations are cheap. It’s a hidden paradise tucked in Visayas, islands away from the country’s busy capital, Manila.

You can spend the whole day enjoying the waters of Kawasanand Aguinid Falls with activities such as swimming, cliff diving, rafting, canyoneering, and trekking. If you want to stay dry, you can also visit old historic Catholic churches, like the Basilica del Sto Nino, which houses the Magellan’s Cross and a museum.

Cebu even offers delectable traditional food like lechon, slow-roasted crispy and juicy pork, and sisig, a sizzling dish made out of pig’s head. Also, remember to try their ripe mangoes before heading home.

4. Bangkok, Thailand

If you want to do a much needed retail therapy, Bangkok is your best choice of destination from Hong Kong. From clothing, accessories to shoes, they have stores that sell items for very low prices. Visit MBK (Ma Boon Khrong) Center and Platinum Fashion Mall for thrift hauls and finds.

This city is also famous as the street food center in Asia. Must try’s are Bangkok’s traditional pad thai, tom yum, and mango sticky rice. Also, visit their one and only Michelin star street food restaurant called Raan Jan Fai, which serves the best Thai crab omelet Kai-Jeaw Poo.

Immerse in Thai culture by touring their palaces and temples, like the Wat Arun, the Great Palace, and Wat Prakeaw. If you want to explore beaches and coves instead of the busy and crowded city, you can consider traveling to Phuket, which is also located in Thailand.

Conclusion

These destinations are close to Hong Kong, and activities will make your travel itinerary more exciting and fun. Don’t forget to plan ahead so that you can research more about these places before booking tickets.

Choose a city that’s more inclined to your interests, but you can definitely visit all if you want to.
